The Office for abilities and desire, founded in 1994, is production and diffusion of contemporary art structure. All of its activities aim to create relationships or to reveal efficient links between creation and contemporary society. Its actions are organised in five categories:
THE Agency
The Agency: the Agency is a place for information on artistic and architectural commission, for exhibitions and exchanges in order to establish new relationships between different partners. It is a laboratory which takes into consideration the different artistic disciplines to enlighten the stakes linked to investing public space. Its objectives are:
- to show the creative process of each project by exhibiting the realisations of the artists and architects,
- to inform by the creation of a permanent archive on art commissions (i.e. videos on artists and commissioning bodies, documents linked to the production of the work of arts, books, magazines and multimedia aid),
- to transform the relationship to the art commission through a place reserved for vivid exchange and dialogue between the different partners, artists, architects and public.
THE ADVENTURE HERE
The Fondation de France’s Nouveaux Commanditaires programme enables citizens to commission a work of art from an artist. Because the programme allows a less restrictive relationship with the artists of our time, those who commission the work are able to realise projects that they have set their hearts on.
Since 1992 this new approach proposes the production of works of art that are born out of an exchange. The three crucial actors in this exchange are the artist, the citizen / commissioning body and the mediator. The works or projects are realised with private and public aide, are destined to a wide public and enrich the collective patrimony. The Fondation de France commits itself from the start by financially participating in the realisation of the project.
Today, over 14 commissions have been produced in the PACA region with artists Patrick Faigenbaum, Dominique Lombardi, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Erik Samakh, Andrea Blum, Daniel Buren, Alexandre Chemetoff, Marc Pataut, Alain Richert, Isabelle Rouquette, Catherine Willis, Francesco Finizio, Sarkis, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Manuel Paoli.
The Training Programme
In the framework of the programme Nouveaux Commanditaires a training programme has been envisaged. It consists of an eleven month internship offering "on site" professional training. The objectives of the training programme are:
- to give future art professionals the possibility of acquiring a savoir-faire through a training programme essentially based on a transfer of skills
- to propose a larger number of mediators to future citizens-commissioning bodies
- to inform society of the existence of a new cultural relationship and that it is at the disposal of each and every person.
